On Friday, Europe’s best Aerobics gymnasts will take to the stage of the 2025 European Championships! Held for the first time in the city of Ganja (AZE), 18 countries will be represented by 151 senior gymnasts.

Who to watch?

We’re in for an absolute treat! Scheduled to compete are big names like Turkish superstar Ayse Onbasi, reigning World Champion Miquel Mane (ESP), Bulgarian powerhouses Hristo Manolov, Antonio Papazov and Borislava Ivanova, defending European Champions Clara Lestruhaut and Maelys Lenclos (FRA), Ukraine’s Anastasia Kurashvili and Stanislav Halaida among others.

Italy, crowned best team at both the 2023 European and the 2024 World Championships, counts on the expertise of World bronze medallist and defending European Champion Davide Nacci, who has his trusted colleagues including Sara Cutini, Marcelo Patteri, Matteo Falera and Francesco Sebastio by his side. All five athletes enjoyed silver success at the World Games this summer. Romania, the best junior team at the previous Europeans, brings a wealth of experience to Ganja. They will field top names like Leonard Manta, Daniel Tavoc, Darius Branda, Vladut Popa and Claudia Ristea, the World Games bronze medallists in the group final.

Fresh off an impressive victory at the World Games, Antonia Konig, Zoltan Locsei, Fruzsina Fejer, Anna Makranszki, Vanessza Ruzicska, Tunde Himmel, Kamilla Goda and Andras Agoston Mikulecz are looking to bring Aerobic Dance gold to Hungary yet again. The host nation’s hopes rely on reigning Vice-World Champions and World Games silver medallists Vladimir Dolmatov and Madina Mustafayeva.

We’re pleased to welcome former junior standouts like Nadia Almeida, Leonor Januario & Tiago Pinheiro (POR), Aleksandar Mishinkov (BUL), Sampo Nousiainen & Jade Sirvioe (FIN) to the senior competition too!

We’re looking  forward to seeing a wealth of skills and creativity out on the floor, and wish all participants a lot of success in achieving their goals!

 

Competition format

6 categories will be contested during this event: Individual Women (IW), Individual Men (IM), Mixed Pairs (MP), Trios (TR), Groups (GR) and Aerobic Dance (AD).

Qualifications: the top 8 per category proceed to the final. If there are less than 12 entries in a category, only 6 proceed to the final. Max. 2 per country for IW, IM, MP and TR. Max 1 per country for GR and AD.

Finals start from mark of zero. The units with the highest score in each category are declared European Champions. Ties will be broken according to the FIG TR. Sec. 6 –1.2.

The Team ranking will be determined by adding the 5 best places: Individual Men or Individual Women, Mixed Pairs, Trios, Groups and Aerobic Dance. The Federation with the lowest total score will be declared European Team Champion! In case of a tie in points at any place in the Team Ranking, the ranking will be determined by the following criteria:

1. the best ranked Group

2. the best ranked Trio

3. the best ranked counting Aerobic Dance.

If there is still a tie, the tie will not be broken.

On Wednesday, the European Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics kick off in the Estonian capital Tallinn! It’s the very first time the Estonian Gymnastics Federation will organise a European Gymnastics event.

39 nations are scheduled to compete in Tallinn. A total of 336 gymnasts will take to the stage: 212 seniors and 124 juniors. Junior will compete in the group competition only, while senior will battle for both individual and group honours.

Who to watch?

Headlined by World and Olympic All-Around Champion Darja Varfolomeev (GER), former World All-Around Champion and Olympic medallist Sofia Raffaeli (ITA), defending European All-Around Champion Stiliana Nikolova (BUL) and European clubs Champion Daniela Munits (ISR), these first continental Championships of the new Olympic cycle promises to be an exciting one! On fire already this season, Ukraine’s Taisiia Onofriichuk is aiming to take her great shape to the next level in Tallinn. Joining her challenge are Spain’s Alba Bautista, Hungary’s Fanni Pigniczki and Hanna Panna Wiesner, Bulgaria’s Eva Brezalieva, Poland’s Liliana Lewinska and Emilia Heichel, Cyprus’ Vera Tugolukova and many others.

Several impressive juniors have now joined the senior ranks, ready to show the world what they are capable of! Keep an eye out for 2024 junior quadruple European Champion Amalia Lica and Israel’s Meital Maayan Sumkin who won the European Cup in Burgas two weeks ago, and Lian Rona. The host nation will count on Valeria Valasevits and Anette Vaher in the individual competition, plus both a junior and a senior group.

In the senior group competition, Bulgaria aims to defend its European title, expecting fierce competition from Olympic medallists Israel and Italy, in addition to Burgas European Cup winners Hungary, exciting Spain, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and several others in a close field.

Competition format

Senior Individuals 1 to 3 gymnasts can compete per National Federation, presenting  maximum 8 exercises. If a NF participates with only 1 gymnast, she must present an exercise with all 4 apparatus and does not qualify for the team ranking. The best 3 scores count towards the all-around ranking. The best 24 advance to the All-Around final, plus 1 gymnast from the host nation if not yet qualified.  In the final, the total of the 4 scores determine the ranking. The best 8 per apparatus compete in the Apparatus finals.

Senior Group Groups perform two routines in qualifications: 5 Ribbons & 3 Balls / 2 Hoops. The combined score determines the All-Around ranking. The best 8 groups per apparatus advance to the apparatus finals.

Team ranking Senior The winner of the Team Competition is determined by combining the results of all 8 senior individual routines plus the 2 senior group routines.

Junior Groups Groups can perform 1 or 2 routines in qualifications: 5 Hoops and / or 5 Clubs.  Both scores are added to determine the All-Around results. The best 8 groups per apparatus advance to the apparatus final.

Tie break rules The FIG rules for World Championships will be followed.

World Championships qualification A top 12 ranking of in total 8 routines from 2/3 senior individual gymnasts per federation from the qualification competition will decide which European federation can participate at the 2025 World Championships with 2/3 gymnasts. All federations, which participated in these Europeans and have not qualified yet among the quota places for 2 – 3 gymnasts, have the right to participate in the 2025 World Championships with 1 individual gymnast.

From Monday to Saturday, Europe’s finest gymnasts will gather in the German city of Leipzig to compete in the first European Championships in Artistic Gymnastics of the new Olympic cycle. Both seasoned competitors and first-year seniors are looking to launch their path towards LA28 at this prestigious event.

The 37 participating national federations will be represented by a grand total of 301 gymnasts, 135 women and 166 men. Trialed and approved at the European Youth Olympic Festival, the Mixed Team Final will make its senior debut at these Europeans, with male and female gymnasts combining their efforts. Announced last month by the International Olympic Committee IOC as part of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, Europe gives its athletes -and the audience- a first taste of what to expect.

Who to watch?

Some of the biggest stars of the sport are scheduled to compete in Leipzig!

Defending women’s team Champions Italy bring a fascinating combination of experienced gymnasts like Olympic beam Champion Alice D’Amato and defending European Champion in the all-around, on beam and floor, Manila Esposito, mixing with their successful former junior gymnasts World and European floor Champion Giulia Perotti and Emma Fioravanti. Defending men’s team Champions Ukraine count the expertise of Oleg Verniaiev and Nazar Chepurniy in its ranks. We’re looking forward to seeing European record holder Eleftherios Petrounias (GRE) aim for another rings victory while trailblazing Cypriot Marios Georgiou is on hand to defend his historic all-around title. The British quest will be led by Olympic medallists Jake Jarman and Harry Hepworth, joined by defending floor Champion Luke Whitehouse and newly crowned British Champion Alia Leat, while Naomi Visser, Tisha Volleman and Casimir Schmidt lead for the Netherlands. 2020 Olympic Champion Artem Dolgopyat will aim to excel again on floor, as will Ray Zapata and Alba Petisco for Spain. Türkiye can rely on the experience of Ferhat Arican and Adem Asil. Sabrina Maneca-Voinea will aim for the medals for Romania alongside Ana Barbosu and Denisa Golgota. Belgium is represented by former European, World and Olympic Champion on bars Nina Derwael and 2023 European vault medallist Lisa Vaelen while France’s counts on Samir Ait Said, Lorette Charpy and Ming Van Eijcken. Shout out to Poland’s Marta Pihan-Kulesza who earned her thirteenth (!) National All-Around title earlier this year.

Aside from the well-known names, this first major international event of the new Olympic cycle promises to reveal the up-and-coming gymnasts, in search for their own spotlight. Ones to watch include Armenia’s junior standout Hamlet Manukyan, France’s Anthony Mansard, Italy’s Edoardo De Rosa and Switzerland’s Samira Raffin.

The host nation Germany will put its hopes on the shoulders of former EYOF and Junior European Champion Helen Kevric, Janoah Mueller, Lea Quaas, Karina Schoenmaier and Silja Stoehr. On the men’s side, they’ll be represented by 2022 European medallist Nils Dunkel, Timo Eder, Dario Sissakis, Hero de Janeiro Andreas Toba, 2023 European floor medallist Milan Hosseini and Glenn Trebing.

Introducing the Mixed Team Final!

The big novelty of these European Championships is the Mixed Team Final. Tested at the two previous editions of the European Youth Olympic Festival, the format was adapted to fit on the senior level, making its debut here in Leipzig.

After qualifications, the nation’s best gymnast on floor, parallel bars, high bar for the men, and vault, balance beam plus floor for the women will form a mixed team together. Qualification is by name, not by federation. The top 16 mixed teams will compete in the final on Wednesday 28 May where all gymnasts perform one routine in Round 1, on the apparatus of their choice from the three available. The top 8 teams advance to Round 2. There they all compete another routine, on a different apparatus. The top 4 advance to the medal rounds where only one apparatus choice is left. Strategic thinking is a must!

 

Competition format

A Senior team consists of 3 - 5 gymnasts, of which up to 4 compete on each apparatus. The 3 best scores on each apparatus are added together to make the total score for the Team. MAG Federations who compete with a Senior Team may bring a 6th gymnast to participate as an individual apparatus specialist. This gymnast may compete on a maximum of 3 apparatus. If a Federation does not have a sufficient number of gymnasts for a full team, it is possible to participate with Individual gymnasts.

The 24 highest ranked gymnasts in the all-around from the Qualifying Competition will qualify for the respective All-Around Final. A maximum of two gymnasts per federation will be allowed in the final. Scores restart from zero.

The 8 highest ranked gymnasts on each apparatus from the Qualifying Competition will qualify for the respective Apparatus Final. A maximum of two gymnasts per federation will be allowed in the finals. Scores restart from zero.

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and European Gymnastics have reached a 4-year agreement for exclusive worldwide media rights as well as a services partnership. It prolongs the current agreement, for the 2025-2028 Olympic cycle, and will cover all European Championships in Men's and Women's Artistic Gymnastics and Rhythmic Gymnastics in this period.

Cooperating since 1986,  EBU Sport, the EBU’s operational arm who work to keep sports coverage accessible to public service media and audiences across Europe and beyond , will continue to be European Gymnastics' exclusive service provider for worldwide distribution. This agreement also includes the live streaming of all these European Championships, in line with both parties policies to enhance their digital presence, and explore new audiences.

On Thursday, the second European Cup in Rhythmic Gymnastics of this year will kick off in the Bulgarian seaside resort Burgas. A total of 12 nations will be represented by 54 senior and 64 junior gymnasts.

Who to watch?

The host nation Bulgaria counts on inaugural European Cup winner and reigning European All-Around Champion Stiliana Nikolova who will be joined by teammate Dara Stoyanova. Their main challenge will come from Israel’s Alona Tal Franco and Meital Maayan Sumkin, Romania’s Amalia Lica, Cypriot Vera Tugolukova, France’s Lily Ramonatxo, Azerbaijan’s Zahra Jafarova and Govhar Ibrahimova, and many others!

In the senior group competition the host nation and 2020 Olympic Champions Bulgaria will take on Azerbaijan, Georgia, Hungary, 2024 Vice-Olympic Champions Israel and Serbia.

For senior individuals and groups, exciting Cross Battles will determine the All-Around medallists. In one-on-one battles, the gymnasts advance through several stages to earn the top spot. This comes with substantial prize money: the winner of the individual Cross Battles gets € 6000, while the silver medallist earns € 4000 and the bronze medallist €2500. The winning group will receive € 10000. The silver medallists will get € 6000 and the bronze medallists € 4000.

At the conclusion of the 2025 European Championships in Acrobatic Gymnastics in Luxembourg, Aida Shaliyeva, Project Manager of our global partner SmartScoring presented the SmartScoring Shooting star award to Switzerland’s Norina Froehlich and Azerbaijan’s Aghasif Rahimov.

Started in 2018, this award aims to put a gymnast with an exceptional story in the spotlight, someone who is an inspiration for the future generation of gymnasts and the general public alike.

At just 18 years old, Norina Froehlich is already making waves on the world stage. Last year, she made history as the first athlete from Switzerland to reach a final at the Acro World Championships. A rocky path led her there: in 2021 Norina had to leave the cantonal training center due to the travel time and lack of compatibility with school and work. She actually left acrobatics completely. In 2022, by chance, a cantonal programme for acrobatic gymnastics was created in her hometown St. Gallen and Norina was invited to join. In 2023, she was set to compete at the European Championships, but a last-minute injury to her partner meant she had to sit out. Instead of letting the setback define her, she used it as fuel to come back stronger. For the past three years, Norina has balanced an elite training schedule with a demanding apprenticeship—juggling work, study, and high-performance sport with unshakable commitment and drive. Since August she is officially working as a dental practice assistant, managing a 35 hours workweek plus 25 hours of training. A story of resilience, grit, and passion, Norina is a true role model for young athletes, a symbol of what dedication and heart can achieve.

For Aghasif Rahimov, it all started at the European Age Group Competitions in Germany back in 2015, where he competed alongside Nurjan Jabbarli in the Mixed Pair category, earning a bronze medal.
Since then Rahimov participated in each edition of the European Age Group Competitions / Europeans, except in 2019 when he was doing his military service. Making a strong comeback in 2021 with a new partner, Raziya Seyidli, the pair has gone from strength to strength, culminating in triple victory at the previous Europeans in Varna (BUL), a remarkable feat. Now competing in his fifth and final European Championships, he is set to conclude his athletic career after the upcoming World Games. A true team player, Rahimov is an inspiration in the Azerbaijani acro community. He provides tremendous support to his teammates, celebrating their victories, offering advice and a helping hand when needed. In fact, he’s back training with good friends Seymur Jafarov and Abdulla Al-Mashaykhi since their comeback to form part of Azerbaijan’s first men’s group. And not just in acro Rahimov is an encouraging figure: alongside his busy training and competition schedule, he’s committed to coaching a great variety of skills to kids in Gymnastics for All.

On Wednesday the 32^nd edition of the European Championships in Acrobatic Gymnastics begins in Luxembourg’s Coque Arena.

23 nations, represented by 346 gymnasts, are heading to Luxembourg. We’ll see Europe’s best junior and senior gymnasts in Acrobatic Gymnastics at work in the following categories: Men’s Pairs, Men’s Groups, Mixed Pairs, Women’s Pairs and Women’s Groups. Medals are at stake for both the balance and dynamic routines, plus the all-around effort.

Who to watch?

A fabulous line-up promises to deliver a fantastic competition! We’ll see Azerbaijani mixed pair Aghasif Rahimov and Raziya Seyidli and men’s pair Daniel Abbasov and Murad Rafiyev at work. Both pairs are not only defending European Champions, but also the reigning World Champions! More World Champion material comes from Belgium, as women’s pair Maysae Bouhouch and Silke Macharis are looking to add European gold to their triple world crown. Forced to withdraw due to injury at the last Europeans, in 2023, the formidable duo showed their worth again earlier this year, on home soil, where they won 2 titles at the World Cup event in Puurs. Amy Refaeli and Yonatan Fridman, Vice-World Champions and seasoned competitors, are leading Israel’s delegation. Ukraine has World Champions Bohdan Ivanyk and Anastasiia Semenovych in their ranks while Yevfrosyniia Kryvytska and Ivan Labunets won all three titles in Puurs. Powerhouse Great Britain counts on, amongst their strong teams, the Worlds experience of medallists Natalia Gilbert and Esme Mathias.

Another great ACRO nation, Portugal can count on reigning dynamic World Champions Miguel Lopes and Goncalo Parreira while Spain is sending the silver medallists in the same category: Juan Daniel Molina and Jose Moreno. We’re also looking forward to seeing Portugal’s men’s group featuring Rodrigo Coutinho, Gustavo Fernandes, Andre Fiuza and Rafael Santos, women’s group Leonor Carreira, Ema Fernandes and Alicia Santos, Germany’s crowd favourites Daniel Blintsov and Diana Lust and many many others compete in D’Coque Sports Arena.

 

Competition format

Qualifications: Each unit can compete their balance and / or dynamic routine. The top 8 proceed to the individual final with a limit of 1 per Federation per category. If there are less than 12 units participating in a category, only 6 proceed to the individual final.

Balance and Dynamic Finals: Starts from mark of zero. The units with the highest score in each category are declared European Champions.  

All-Around Final: The total scores from balance and dynamic exercises from qualifications and combined exercises from the all-round final will be added. The units with the highest score will be declared All-Around European Champions.

Tie-Break Rules: According to European Gymnastics Technical Regulations (art 3.5).

On Thursday the 13^th edition of the European Age Group Competitions in Acrobatic Gymnastics kicks off in Luxembourg’s Coque Arena.

Held for the first time in the city of Luxembourg, 24 countries will be represented by 385 gymnasts in two age groups: Pre Youth (11 – 16) and Youth (12 – 18)!

Competition format

Qualifications: the top 8 per category proceed to the final. If there are less than 12 entries in a category, only 6 proceed to the final. If there are 30 or more entries in a category, 10 proceed to the final. No more than 1 unit from each federation, in each category, is allowed to proceed to the final.

Finals start from mark of zero. The units with the highest score in each category are declared European Age Group winners. Pre Youth (11-16) perform one exercise, balance or dynamic in accordance with the category:

• Mixed Pairs: Balance
• Men’s Pairs: Dynamic
• Women’s Groups: Balance
• Men’s Groups: Dynamic

Youth (12-18) perform one combined exercise in finals. Tie break rules apply according to FIG regulations.

On Wednesday, the 15^th European Championships in TeamGym kick off in Baku’s National Gymnastics Arena. It’s the first time Azerbaijan will organise this event!

304 senior and 237 junior gymnasts will represent the following 14 countries: Austria, Azerbaijan, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Great Britain, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal and Sweden.

Who to watch?

The best of the best are travelling to Azerbaijan, providing an exciting line-up mix of experience and fresh energy!

On the nominative list are 7 members of the 2022 All Stars Team: Nicole Hosseini (SWE), Bryndis Gudnadottir (ISL), Agnes Arvidsson (SWE), Ásta Kristinsdottir (ISL), Holly Barbour (GBR), Tofig Aliyev  (AZE) and Connor Wharram (GBR). Aliyev won the silver medal in Tumbling at this year’s Trampoline Europeans, while him and Adil Hajizada were part of the history making Azerbaijani tumbling team that clinched gold at the 2023 World Championships. Our 2022 Shooting star Tabea Zirnig (AUT) is also on the roster. To our delight we can welcome another team of last edition’s hosts Luxembourg, keeping the legacy alive.  

We wish every single gymnast and team loads of success, supporting them to achieve their goals.

 

Competition format

These European Championships feature competitions for Men’s, Women’s and Mixed teams, both in the junior and the senior age categories. Each team must consist of between 8 and 10 gymnasts, plus up to 2 reserves. Mixed team must be 50/50 split in each apparatus/round.

Each team performs on Floor, Tumble and Trampet. The combined score of these three events determines the final ranking. The final standing of the qualification rounds determine which teams advance to the finals, where scoring starts from zero.
