After the second part of Apparatus finals of the 2026 European Championships in Men’s Artistic Gymnastics in Zagreb (CRO), Kamran Ramazanov, CEO of our global partner SmartScoring, presented the SmartScoring Shooting star award to Marios Georgiou from Cyprus.

Started in 2018, this award aims to put a gymnast with an exceptional story in the spotlight, someone who is an inspiration for the future generation of gymnasts and the general public alike.

Marios Georgiou has written some of the most remarkable chapters in the history of Cypriot gymnastics.
After making his Olympic debut at Rio 2016, he quickly established himself as one of the country’s leading gymnasts and a pioneer on the international stage.
In 2018, he enjoyed a breakthrough year, winning the All-Around and Horizontal Bar titles at the Mediterranean Games, as well as two gold medals at the Commonwealth Games. A year later, he made history again by winning bronze in the European All-Around in Szczecin – Cyprus’ first-ever European gymnastics medal.

In 2022, Georgiou became the first Cypriot gymnast to win a European title, taking gold on Horizontal Bar in Munich. His greatest achievement came in 2024, when he became the first Cypriot European All-Around Champion in Rimini (scoring over 14 points on 4 apparatuses, highlighted by magnificent parallel bars and horizontal routines). This incredible performance also secured him a spot at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where he reached the Horizontal Bar final and finished an impressive sixth — another historic first for Cyprus. A fantastic year for Marios Georgiou, crowned “Male Gymnast of the Year” with more than 50% of the votes.

In Zagreb, Marios Georgiou added another medal to his impressive collection, claiming silver on the high bar.

Beyond his impressive medal tally, Georgiou’s career is a story of perseverance, consistency and determination. By breaking new ground at almost every major stage of his career, he has become a true inspiration for young gymnasts in Cyprus and far beyond.

Following the women's competition, it will be the men's turn to take centre stage. On 19 August, the 2026 European Championships in Men's Artistic Gymnastics will get underway in Zagreb.

Who to watch?

The 2026 European Men's Artistic Gymnastics Championships promise a highly competitive field, with several nations capable of challenging for medals across all six apparatus. With no clear dominant force, the battle for European titles is expected to be both intense and thrilling.

Great Britain has established itself as one of the leading nations in European men's artistic gymnastics. Renowned for its depth of talent, the British team consistently performs at the highest level and remains a regular presence on the continental podium. Arriving in Zagreb as the reigning European team champions following their victory in Leipzig in 2025, Great Britain will once again be among the favourites. Led by former European All-Around Champion Joe Fraser and vault specialist Harry Hepworth, the British squad has every chance of adding to its impressive medal collection.

Switzerland, spearheaded by Noe Seifert, and Italy continue to strengthen their position among Europe's elite after claiming the team silver and bronze medals respectively in 2025. Both nations boast well-balanced squads capable of challenging across multiple events. Türkiye, led by reigning European All-Around Champion Adem Asil, will also be a major contender, particularly on the rings and in the all-around competition. Arsenii Duknhno will also be keen to put in a strong performance in his first senior competition, following his 2025 Junior World Championship title.

France, Germany, Hungary and the Netherlands will likewise be aiming for strong performances, with several gymnasts capable of reaching event finals and competing for individual medals throughout the Championships.

Competition format

A Senior team consists of 3 - 5 gymnasts, of which up to 4 compete on each apparatus. The 3 best scores on each apparatus are added together to make the total score for the Team on that apparatus. If a Federation does not have a sufficient number of gymnasts for a full team, it is possible to participate with Individual gymnasts.

Federations who compete with a Senior Team may bring a 6th gymnast to participate as an individual apparatus specialist. This gymnast may compete on a maximum of 3 apparatus. The 6th gymnast is an individual gymnast and therefore may be required to compete separately from the team, for example, in a different group or subdivision.

A separate All-Around Final result list will be produced including the 24 gymnasts with the highest ranking obtained. A maximum of 2 gymnasts per Federation will be taken into consideration. The results from the Senior Qualifying competition will determine the 2026 European All-Around medalists.

A Junior team consists of 3 - 5 gymnasts, of which up to 4 compete on each apparatus. The 3 best scores on each apparatus are added together to make the total score for the Team on that apparatus. If a Federation does not have a sufficient number of gymnasts for a full team, it is possible to participate with Individual gymnasts. The results from the Junior Qualifying competition will determine the 2026 Junior European Team and All-around medalists.

The 8 highest ranked gymnasts on each apparatus from the Qualifying Competition will qualify for the respective Apparatus Final. A maximum of two gymnasts per federation will be allowed in the finals.

The 8 best Teams from the Senior Qualifying Competition will participate in the Senior Team Final. The teams consist of 3 to 5 gymnasts, of which 3 compete on each apparatus. The 3 scores on each apparatus are added and make the total result.

Who to watch?

Europe's top female gymnasts are ready to compete for continental glory, promising several days of world-class performances, breathtaking routines and unforgettable moments.

Angelina Melnikova will be one of the standout names to watch in Zagreb, bringing her wealth of international experience and a proven track record at the highest level of European gymnastics. Melnikova and her teammates are tipped as favourites for these European Championships.

Italy continues to establish itself as one of the leading forces in European women's artistic gymnastics. The Italians have claimed multiple team titles in recent years, along with an impressive collection of individual medals. Led by European star Manila Esposito and supported by the talented Asia D’Amato, Italy will undoubtedly arrive in Zagreb with high ambitions and as one of the favorites to add even more continental medals to its tally.

Great Britain, France and Germany also remain among Europe's strongest contenders. Regularly challenging for podium finishes, all three nations are expected to field gymnasts capable of reaching event finals and fighting for medals. Among them, Germany's Helen Kevric stands out as one of the brightest young talents in European gymnastics and will be one to watch throughout the Championships. Elena Colas will be one of the French gymnasts to watch in Zagreb, bringing youthful energy and strong potential to a highly competitive European field. A multiple international medalist at junior level, including three European junior titles in 2024 and a World Junior Team Championship title in 2025, Zagreb will be Elena’s opportunity to make her mark at senior level.

Romania, one of the most successful nations in the history of European women's artistic gymnastics, is steadily returning to the forefront after several years away from the top. With a new generation of talented athletes emerging, the Romanian juniors will undoubtedly be among the teams to watch in Zagreb.

The junior competition promises to be just as exciting, with Europe's next generation of stars ready to make their mark on the continental stage. For many of these athletes, Zagreb will represent an important milestone on the road to the senior ranks. The European Junior Championships have long served as a launchpad for future international stars, making this competition the perfect opportunity to discover the names that could shape European gymnastics in the years to come, with the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games already firmly in their sights.

Competition format

A Senior team consists of 3 - 5 gymnasts, of which up to 4 compete on each apparatus. The 3 best scores on each apparatus are added together to make the total score for the Team on that apparatus. If a Federation does not have a sufficient number of gymnasts for a full team, it is possible to participate with Individual gymnasts.

A separate All-Around Final result list will be produced including the 24 gymnasts with the highest ranking obtained. A maximum of 2 gymnasts per Federation will be taken into consideration. The results from the Senior Qualifying competition will determine the 2026 European All-Around medalists.

A Junior team consists of 3 - 5 gymnasts, of which up to 4 compete on each apparatus. The 3 best scores on each apparatus are added together to make the total score for the Team on that apparatus. If a Federation does not have a sufficient number of gymnasts for a full team, it is possible to participate with Individual gymnasts. A prize money fund will be introduced for the first time in history at the European Championships Zagreb 2026.

The total Prize money for WAG, exclusively provided by the LOC - Croatian Gymnastics Federation, is EUR 62,500, intended for athletes and their coach.

From Thursday 9 to Saturday 11 July, the beautiful Italian town of Pistoia will welcome 3437 gymnasts from 21 countries for the record 5^th edition of the European Gym for Life Challenge.

138 groups will aim to deliver the performance of their lives. The main objective of the European Gym for Life Challenge is to improve the quality of the performances, focusing on the ‘show effect’, or the attractiveness for spectators.

Each performance will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

• Entertainment value and overall impression
• Innovation and originality
• Technique, quality and safety
• Variety and diversity

All parts have equal value, up to 5 points per criteria. The evaluation is carried out by a panel of 4 experts. All scores are given independently with the 4 scores added together. Each group will receive constructive feedback by experts focusing on strengths and areas to be improved.

All groups receive a gold, silver or bronze medal.

The European Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics return to Varna! The flagship event will kick off on Wednesday in Varna’s Palace of Culture and Sports, 5 years after the last edition there.  

With record participation of 43 nations, this event is already making headlines. A total of 362 gymnasts will take to the stage: 254 seniors and 108 juniors. Juniors will compete individually only, while senior will battle for both individual and group honours.

Who to watch?

The hopes of the home nation rely on superstars Stiliana Nikolova and Eva Brezalieva while the international community is eager to see them battle with the defending European all-around Champion Taisiia Onofriichuk (UKR), World and Olympic Champion Darja Varfolomeev (GER) and Italian grand lady Sofia Raffaeli. Add to that, the challenge presented by Tara Dragas (ITA), Alina Harnasko (BLR), the Romanian duo Amalia Lica and Andreea Verdes, Fanni Pigniczki (HUN), Liliana Lewinska (POL), Hatice Gokce Emir (TUR), Vera Tugolukova (CYP)  and several other up-and-coming talents, the competition promises to be thrilling!

In the senior group competition, Spain aims to defend its European hattrick, expecting fierce competition from the home nation Bulgaria, Olympic medallists Israel and Italy, Ukraine, Germany, France, Russia, Belarus and several others in a close field.

We wish every single gymnast loads of success, supporting them to achieve their goals.

Competition format

Senior Individuals 1 to 3 gymnasts can compete per National Federation, presenting  maximum 8 exercises. If a NF participates with only 1 gymnast, she must present an exercise with all 4 apparatus and does not qualify for the team ranking. The best 8 per apparatus compete in the Apparatus finals. The best 3 scores count towards the all-around ranking. The best 20 advance to the All-Around final, plus 1 gymnast from the host nation if not yet qualified.  In the all-around final, all finalists perform with hoop and ball. The top 10 after those two apparatus advance to the second part where they will perform with clubs and ribbon. The total of the scores determine the ranking. The best 8 per apparatus compete in the Apparatus finals.

Senior Group Groups perform two routines in qualifications: 5 Ball & 3 Hoops / 2 pairs of Clubs. The combined score determines the All-Around ranking. The best 8 groups per apparatus advance to the apparatus finals.

Team ranking Senior The winner of the Team Competition is determined by combining the results of all 8 senior individual routines plus the 2 senior group routines.

Junior Individuals 1 to 4 gymnasts can compete per National Federation, presenting  4 exercises. If a NF participates with only 1 gymnast, she must present an exercise with all 4 apparatus and does not qualify for the team ranking. The best 8 per apparatus compete in the Apparatus finals.

Team ranking Junior The winner of the Team Competition is determined by combining the results of the 4 junior individual routines, providing the National Federation uses at least 2 different gymnasts.

World Championships qualification A top 12 ranking of in total 8 routines from 2/3 senior individual gymnasts per federation from the qualification competition will decide which European federation can participate at the 2026 World Championships with 2/3 gymnasts. All federations, which participated in these Europeans and have not qualified yet among the quota places for 2 – 3 gymnasts, have the right to participate in the 2026 World Championships with 1 individual gymnast.

It’s European Cup time! From Thursday to Sunday, the European Cup in Rhythmic Gymnastics will be held in the Azerbaijani capital Baku. A total of 32 nations will be represented by 135 senior and 62 junior gymnasts.

Focus of this event will be on the thrilling ‘Cross Battles’, a unique and exciting competition format which sees gymnasts competing directly against each other to reach to next round. Typical for the European Cup, cross battles will determine the all-around Champion for senior individuals and groups. New this year, the junior team title will also be contested in a cross battle format!

Produced by Huxley for European Gymnastics, ‘Chasing Perfection – Inside the Cross Battle’ casts an exclusive, behind the scenes view inside the mental and physical preparation for this intense competition. Follow Italian superstar Sofia Raffaeli and Bulgarian group captain Sofia Ivanova on their quest for glory in the Cross Battles at the 2025 European Cup in Rhythmic Gymnastics in Baku (AZE).

Documentary 'Chasing Perfection - Inside the Cross Battle' - European Cup in Rhythmic Gymnastics

From Wednesday to Sunday, all eyes will be on Portugal, on the wonderful town of Portimao, where Europe’s finest gymnasts will compete in the 30^th edition of the European Championships in Trampoline, Double Mini-Trampoline and Tumbling.

Portimao will welcome 297 senior and 320 junior gymnasts from 29 countries. For the first time ever, the U21 category is added, in Individual and Synchronised Trampoline! There, we’ll see 82 gymnasts compete.

Who to watch?

Trampoline – Individual and Synchronised

We are in for a sensational week with reigning Olympic Champion Ivan Litvinovich, Vice-Olympic Champion Viyaleta Bardzilouskaya and home crowd favourite and defending European Champion Pedro Ferreira (POR) headlining the event. Also looking to excel in Portimao are last year’s World Championships finallists Gabriel Albuquerque (POR), Jorge Martin (ESP), Andrei Builou (AIN), Seljan Mahsudova (AZE), Katsiaryna Yarshova and Iana Lebedeva (AIN).

In Synchro, Litvinovich and Builou are the reigning World Champions while Albuquerque partnered with Lucas Santos to win the World Games and will be joined in competition by their teammates Diogo Abreu and Pedro Ferreira. In the women’s competition, Lea Labrousse aims to find new success for France while Sofiia Aliaeva and Anzhela Bladtseva won gold at both World Cup events this year.

The absence of the British title holders leaves the door wide open for the many talented trampolinists on the roster. The U21 category made the programme for the very first time, including a mixed synchro competition in that age group!

Double Mini-Trampoline

New European Champions will be crowned in DMT as both 2024 winners are absent.  Superstar Melania Rodriguez (ESP) withdrew due to injury. Can Kirsty Way regain the title for Great Britain? Or will we see Anastasia Heinrich (GER), Galina Begim (AIN) or Alexandra Garcia (POR) on the top step of the podium?

In the men’s competition, we’re excited to see a showdown between World Games Champions Brent Deklerck (BEL), silver medallist Omo Aikeremiokha (GBR), Spain’s Carlos Del Ser and Portugal’s Diogo Cabral.

Tumbling

The biggest names in the women’s competition include defending European Champion Alexandra Efraimoglou (GRE), World Champion Arina Kaliandra (AIN), Team World Champions Maelie Abadie and Manon Morancais (FRA) and World bronze medallist Lani Spiessens (BEL). While in the men’s competition, we’ll keep a keen eye out for defending European Champion and Vice-World Champion Magnus Lindholmer (DEN) and his teammate Martin Abildgaard who won bronze at Worlds in 2025, Team World Champions Tofig Aliyev, Adil Hajizade & Mikhail Malkin (AZE), World Games bronze medallist Fred Teague (GBR) and Portuguese crowd-pleaser Vasco Peso.

Of course, all gymnasts are looking to excel in Portimao! We wish every single gymnast loads of success, supporting them to achieve their goals.

Competition format

The competition programme in the disciplines TRA, DMT and TUM consists of a qualifying competition (Qualification Q1 with two exercises and Semi-Final Q2 with one exercise), a final for TRA and two final rounds F1 and F2 for DMT and TUM.  

TRA, DMT and TUM Team competitions consist of Qualification (Q1 – two exercises) and a Final (one exercise). If there are less than 4 teams for a team competition, the team competition will be cancelled.

The winner of each competition group will qualify to Semi-Final (Q2) or to the Final.

Participation: The number of gymnasts who will go forward from Qualification (Q1) to Semi-Finals (Q2) depends on the number of entries in the nominative registration. Only 3 gymnasts / 2 pairs per member federation may compete in the Semi-Final (Q2). The gymnasts / pairs start the Semi-Final (Q2) with a score of zero. The winner of each competition group will qualify to the Final.

The final determines the European Champion. Participation:

• A maximum of 8 individual gymnasts per discipline and age category, men and women (maximum 2 per NF).
• In DMT and TUM Final 4 gymnasts qualify from F1 to F2.
• A maximum of 8 synchro pairs per age category, men and women, and U21 mixed (maximum 1 per NF).
• The top 5 teams in TRA, DMT and TUM per age category, men and women (3 gymnasts per team).

If there are less than 12 entries in a category, only 6 will proceed to the final. The winner is the gymnast / pair with the highest score in Finals (in F2 in DMT and TUM), in Team Finals the winner is the team with the highest sum of ranking points.

Tie breaking rules

The World Gymnastics Tie Breaking rules of the World Championships are in force. Tie Breaking Rules will be applied at all times, also for Junior Finals and TRA U21 Finals. U21 individual: Tie Breaking rules Q1 apply only on the second exercise. TRA Junior Team: Tie Breaking rules Q1 apply only on the second exercise.

At the conclusion of the 2025 European Championships in Aerobic Gymnastics in Ganja (AZE), Aida Shaliyeva, Project Manager of our global partner SmartScoring, presented the SmartScoring Shooting star award to Hungary’s Zoltán Lőcsei and Ukaine’s Anastasiia Kurashvili.

Started in 2018, this award aims to put a gymnast with an exceptional story in the spotlight, someone who is an inspiration for the future generation of gymnasts and the general public alike.

Zoltán Lőcsei is one of the most successful athletes in the history of Hungarian aerobic gymnastics, holding two European, two World and two World Games. At the age of 17, the former acrobatic gymnast approached his current coaches Andrea Sinko and Monika Sipos, expressing his desire to try aerobics. He advanced to the national team relatively quickly, and over the past decade has become one of the sport’s most accomplished figures. An interesting fact: throughout his career, he has represented Hungary in every category. His charismatic personality and kind attitude have laid the foundation for many international friendship and made him a perfect a role model for young athletes. Deeply passionate about the sport, Zoltán aims to pass on his love for Aerobics also as a coach.

The journey of Anastasiia Kurashvili (UKR) in aerobics began at the age of five, in a small gym where she first discovered what rhythm, strength, and character truly mean. Back then, she didn’t yet know that one day she would be called “Grace” for her unique elegance, natural artistry, and unique ability to turn every movement into a story. Now she is 21. Behind her are years of hard work, thousands of training sessions, and countless victories. Her journey was far from easy. During the war, her hometown came under occupation, forcing her to seek refuge abroad. Yet, as soon as it became possible, she returned home. She never sought the easy way, she simply knew her place was here: with her team, with her country, with Ukraine. Today, Anastasiia continues to train in a border town despite cold gyms, air raid alarms, and power outages. And still, when she steps onto the floor, the world around her fades. There is only music, movement, and the magic she creates through her grace, reaching the very top of her sport. She became a World Champion, European Champion, World Cup winner, bronze medalist at The World Games, and earned the titles of International Master of Sport and Honoured Master of Sport of Ukraine. She stands as a symbol of beauty, strength, and unbreakable faith in one’s dream. And her story is far from over: with every performance, she continues to write a new chapter in the history of Ukrainian gymnastics.

The 14^th European Championships in Aerobic Gymnastics kicked off in the Azerbaijani town of Ganja with two exciting qualifications days. At stake were team honours and places in the finals.

For the team results, the ranking is determined by adding the 5 best places: Individual Men or Individual Women, Mixed Pairs, Trios, Groups and Aerobic Dance. The nation with the lowest total score wins.

Defending Team Champion Italy certainly understood the assignment. With a first place for their group and their trio, a second place for Davide Nacci in Individual Men and a third place for the Aerobic Dance performance, the Italians cruised to victory. Eternal rivals Romania clinched the silver courtesy of the stellar performances of their group, Aerobic Dance team and Leonard Manta in Individual Men while Miquel Mane and Sonia Vidal led their Spanish teammates to the bronze medal, earning valuable points for the team first individually and then in the Mixed Pairs and Trios.
